Sam Harney & Family
I'm a local Somerset citizen having grown up in this community since I was 9 years old back in 1989. My family moved here when my father, Bro. Steve Harney, accepted a position as the Children's Pastor at Oak Hill Baptist Church. Since then I have graduated from High School, and College, and continue to work and live in the community. In 2013 I was introduced to my wife through a friend of her friends husband (Yeah it's weird, lol) we had both reached a point in our lives where we were done/ready. She had just got out of a relationship that wasn't going anywhere, and I had basically been single forever (not literally, but at times it felt that way). Neither of us knew the other existed yet, but we both reached a point where we had a heart to heart with God. I know for me personally it was a very emotional moment as I pored my heart out to God telling him that I was lonely and that I wanted someone to share my life with. I believe it was about a month after that prayer that a coworker came to me and told me the wife of one of his buddies was looking for a "good man" to setup her friend with. I don't know how "good of a man" I am, but I was thankful that he and eventually she as well thought I was. We got engaged 3 months after that, and married 3 months after being engaged! WOW! It was a crazy time. Eight months after we married, December 13, 2014 (yes 12/13 14) at 12:43PM, our first daughter was born, 1 month early. She had some difficulty breathing, and so she had to hang out with the NICU nurses and doctors a little longer than we had hoped, but she was a trooper and about 1 week later was able to come home. In 2016 I found a large lump on my neck, 4 months later we were given the diagnosis of Hodgkin's Lymphoma and about 2 weeks after that Thyroid Cancer too. To say that this was a stressful time would be an understatement. As far as cancer's go I had the 2 easiest to survive, and I can tell you today that I made it, but would not wish these on anyone.
On May 9th 2018 my wife and I welcomed our second daughter. Arolyn Jaine Harney. As much as one could say that our first daughter was a mini me when she was born so is Arolyn of my wife. She is our little Rooty Toot and we can't imagine our lives without her. Later that same year we were blessed again with some good news for me. In the Summer of 2018 I was told that there were no signs of activity related to my Thyroid Cancer, and then later that year we were told my Hodgkin's Lymphoma was in remission. Apparently you have to make it a whole decade to be told that your Thyroid cancer is in remission.
Married on April 5th 2014. Welcomed our first daughter on 12/13/14, and our second daughter on 5/9/18... And we have 2 dogs and 1 fish.
I have been a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church since I was 9 years old in 1989. At present time I serve in our Media Booth running Sound, Computer or Lights as needed.
